Yes, we know, it's all you've been hearing about on the news these days. Some of you may be relaxed about it, some of you may be wearing tin-foil hats and panic buying toilet rolls. But are you prepared in a real sense should you or your staff have to look at self isolation? The prospect is becoming more of a likely reality.
If you get the nod to go into self isolation (ie you feel OK but are waiting to see if you have any symptoms), or if your staff have to self isolate, are you/they in a position to just immediately resume work seamlessly from home?
It's at that time you're going to be reliant on your internet access and your email in particular. Do you need to dust off an old laptop or tablet to take home, or make available to someone. Is that device configured ready to go?
If you use Calico for your hosting services, then please do get in touch with us ahead of time to get a reminder of your email login details. Get those systems updated and configured to use the email service now, rather than later. We can assist by phone or email if you need any help with a particular device, program or app.
Here at Calico, we're already set up for remote working, and are able to use remote access software to access our PCs from home. Perhaps that's something you've considered as well, but if not, then here are a couple remote access software providers, for those situations where you need to access systems in your main place of work.
The two main products we recommend are Teamviewer and Go To My PC. These do more or less the same job - You pay a modest monthly subscription, load the software on to your work PC and again on to your home PC, and you can access one from the other (don't worry - it's all password protected). Then, as you sit in front of your PC at home, it's as if you're sitting in front of your PC at work. You can also load the software on to a tablet if you don't have a home PC, although the experience will be different.
